TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
A dry start, with temperatures near 3.  The first signs of light rain are expected by late morning & then it's well & truly down-hill. As rainfall starts to become heavier, then is the risk that it will turn to sleet or snow. Land above 300 to 400ms may well get 6 hours or so of heavy snow with several inches accumulating (I will set up an image of the Drumochter summit webcam, which should update).
200 to 300ms altitude is problematic, but I suspect there will be a couple of hours of wettish snow with some accumulation, still around on Saturday. At town level, some temporary sleet or wet snow seems probable, with some slush surviving.     Winds SE force 4 or 5 T temperature between 1 & 3 for the next 24hrs.

WEEKEND---Still very unsettled, especially on Saturday, when it will also be windy with some snow still likely. Remaining cold, though frost unlikely because of cloud & wind.

Slight rain now on (12noon).      Temperature almost +4.   All precipitation round & about is light & patchy.
Heavier precipitation probably starting between 2&3pm. This should pull temperatures down & increases likelihood of sleet or snow.   Drumochter webcam is below & keeps updating, so invaluable for anyone planning a journey north up A9. This will be left on, but heavy snow could block up the camera (though it is facing north & wind is SE).        Have a pleasant weekend despite the weather.   Barry (1220 FRI 31st)

Winds will be rather more lively at SE 4 to 6, making it feel extra cold.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
Further bands of showery rain moving in from the SE, will continue to affect the area throughout the day. The worst of the rain is likely to be during the morning, with some easing p.m.  Winds will blow from the SE, force 4 to 6 initially, but easing down during the day.  Temperatures should start off between 4 & 5, but will be falling gradually towards frost levels by evening. Showers overnight may start to turn wintry & Thursday may well start with a little snow & ice.
Next 2 DAYS IN PITLOCHRY
THURSDAY---Expected to be bitingly cold, with a SE wind & temperatures spending all day in the 0 to 2 range. On the positive side, it should be much drier, though a few snow flurries are possible, amounting to little.
It is likely to remain mostly cloudy.
FRIDAY---Still very cold, but now a new, deep Atlantic depression moves in to do battle with the cold air over Britain & Northern Europe. This may well result in some snowfall for a time, before later turning to sleet.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
A bright start, with temperatures above frost level & with very little shower activity around this morning. From lunchtime, it is expected to become much more cloudy from the SE, with fairly frequent showers or longer spells of rain, this situation persisting through the evening & into the overnight period.  Temperatures will spend most of the day around 3 or 4 & hold up through the night. (There will still be snowfall at high altitudes & the Cairngorms will again see atrocious conditions)

NEXT 2 DAYS IN PITLOCHRY

WEDNESDAY will find temperatures at their highest to begin with & a fall-off during the day, with a frost likely during the evening. At this stage, it looks as though low cloud & occasional rain will dominate the day, though much of this will be light & overall, rainfall totals should be lower. By dawn on Thursday, ice may well be a problem.
THURSDAY---sees the brief incursion of air from Northern Europe & with temperatures at 1 or 2 & SE winds force 3, it will feel very cold. There may be a few insignificant snow flurries, with dry weather for most of the time.
