Saturday is expected to be rather cloudy, but it should remain dry this morning. During this afternoon & evening, there are likely to be a few showers around & although these should be mostly light, there could be an isolated heavier one, more especially further to the east of Pitlochry. Winds be be force 2 or 3, mainly from the south. Temperatures should rise to 17 degrees. Tonight should become dry with a few clear spells, with temperatures just about holding in double figures.

LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK----SUN. 1st to WED. 4th JULY
Nothing too exciting to start the new month! The period will be rather cloudy & cool, with a few showers or a longer spell of light rain lined up for each day of this period. A new area of low pressure, with its associated fronts will slowly move into Scotland from the Atlantic. Most of the rain or showers should be mostly light & winds should be no more than force 3 or 4. Temperatures will be down on normal, no better than about 16 as a daily maximum, with only limited amounts of sunshine. Nights should be mostly in double figures.

Low pressure to the west of Ireland will move across Scotland into Scandinavia, giving generally unsettled conditions. Friday will be unsettled with rain at times & little in the way of sunshine. Further occasional rain is likely, especially on Saturday, with a better chance of dry conditions & a few sunny intervals on Sunday. A new low pressure system seems set to continue the unsettled theme into next week. Daytime temperatures are likely to be pegged in the range 15 to 17 throughout.

High pressure over Europe(responsible for the current fine weather at Wimbledon), will weaken over the period. Low pressure to the SW will move closer to Scotland, with some fronts affecting our area.. Thursday will see overcast skies & some further rain, perhaps some being heavy.Friday & Saturday are likely to be partly cloudy, with sunny intervals but also some showers. Sunday looks like being the better day of the weekend, with fewer showers around & a better chance of some sunny intervals. The whole period is likely to be cooler than normal, with best temperatures stuck in a range 15 to 18. Winds turning into the west by the weekend.

Winds will start from the W, but through the period, gradually turn more into the N. mostly between force 2 & 4. Daytime temperatures will reach in a range 15 to 18, near or slightly below average &. no frost seems likely.
Parts of N.England, N.Ireland & SW Scotland have seen a very wet period, with the worst-affected places receiving over 100mms. Our area, due to get at least some of this, received nothing during Friday & our June total remains well-below the normal.

LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK----SAT.23rd to TUES. 26th JUNE
An area of low pressure now over Scotland will be over Scandinavia by Monday. The period will be rather unsettled, with the worst of things on Sat. when a wet morning is expected & still a rather cloudy afternoon with occasional rain or showers. The following days should at least see some sunshine, though Sunday may have more cloudy skies & a spell of light rain for a time a.m. .Monday & Tuesday should be more typically sunny intervals with a shower risk p.m. Throughout the period, winds will be back in the W. mostly force 2 or 3. Daytime temperatures should reach in the range 15 to 17 degrees, just a little below average.

THE NIGHTS ARE STARTING TO GET LONGER!!!
So says the pessimist, but it is factually correct. The summer solstice was on the 20th June this year.
However, the optimist can truthfully say that there will be more daylight than darkness until the 3rd week in September.
Click on GLOBAL DAYLIGHT MAP in FAVOURITE LINKS & check what goes on. I find it particularly interesting around 10pm, when part of Britain is in daylight & part in darkness. And remember, the places that get many weeks or months of perpetual daylight lose out on being very much colder than we are in Scotland (as we found last year on our journey to North Cape & Spitsbergen)

As I mentioned yesterday, Pitlochry is very much on the northern edge of all the rain we are hearing about. So a cloudy day ahead, with little chance of any sunshine, but overall, only small amounts of rain, mostly later in the day & much of it light. Winds will be E force 4 or 5, so feeling very cool at about 11 at best. Remaining cloudy, with more rain overnight.

LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK----SAT 16th to TUES.19th JUNE
A low pressure centre over the Irish Republic will move NE across N. England & into Scandinavia by Sunday. This will result in a spell of cool & unsettled weather during this period, with often cloudy skies & some spells of rain, often light (with total amounts of rain much less than further south).Winds will be at their strongest on Saturday & from the NE, but later in the period will be lighter & more variable in direction. There will be too much cloud around for any frost, but daytime temperature values will be around 3 to 5 degrees below the seasonal norm. Some sunny intervals to start next week, but no heatwaves!

It would be helpful to me( in monitoring daily usage & seeing where new features are popular or otherwise), if just 2 routes could be used:----
