The day started wet, though the rain became lighter as the morning went on. The afternoon was mainly dry, but very windy at times from the west. The temperature reached 11 degrees. By evening, there was a good deal of clear sky with some sunshine.

MONDAY 28th MARCH----EVENING
UPDATE @ 1800Hrs
It's been disappointingly cloudy today, more or less Scotland-wide. This held the top temperature down to just 9.0 degrees, though this is pretty close to the average for late March.. At present, we have 8/8ths of stratocumulus cloud at about 1200ms!
THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Generally rather cloudy, though a few breaks are possible overnight. It should stay dry. Lowest temperatures should fall to around 0 to 2 degrees, with a ground frost in many places.

THEREAFTER, the weather is expected to become rather more unsettled for a few days, with some rain on occasions. Temperatures should hold up well & no overnight frost is expected.

I was reading a weather article yesterday, which referred to March 1965, when apparently the temperature on the 29th, proved to be the HIGHEST of the ENTIRE YEAR in some spots in N.E. England.(Doesn't say much for the SUMMER that year!!)

There were a few spots of rain while I was gardening late this afternoon, but not enough to bother about. I see on the radar that there are still a few showers to our N & NE which could affect us during the early evening. The maximum temperature was an above average 11.5 degrees.

A bit of a let-down after the weather of recent days! Probably the"best time" of the day was early & mid afternoon, though we were caught at 1530 by a shower moving from the west & there are a few more of these about that might affect us for the next couple of hours.The maximum temperature was a below average 7.6 & the rainfall between 0900 & 1630 was 1.4mms.

FRIDAY 25th MARCH----EVENING
UPDATE @ 1700Hrs
FRIDAY turned out sunnier & milder than expected, with the top temperature reaching 13.8 degrees. Mind you, we were lucky, as a glance at a recent radar image, showed several showers not far away.
THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Partly cloudy skies this evening, but mainly dry. After midnight, there is likely to be some occasional rain spreading down from the north, though amounts are likely to be small. Most places should escape a frost, though lowest temperatures will only be 2 or 3 degrees above freezing.

It's been a superb day, with small amounts of cloud & plenty of sunshine. The maximum temperature reached 14.2 degrees.

Some cloud during the period, but clear skies too, allowing temperatures to fall to 1 or 2 degrees, with a fairly widespread ground frost.
OUTLOOK
FRIDAY----It should be another dry day, though with a chilly start & perhaps a misty one in prone spots. The day was disappointing, with the cloud reluctant to break, leaving sunshine at a premium. It was, however, still mild, with the maximum of 13.1 well-above the normal. There was more sunshine & higher temperatures nearer to the East Coast.

A mixture of cloudy spells, but with clearing skies at times too. During the clearer skies, temperatures will fall & it is likely that there will be a ground frost by morning.

THURSDAY should be another day with a mixture of cloud & sunshine & temperatures rising to reach above average values.

The morning was rather cloudy, though the sky appeared more broken towards Perth, in contrast to the low cloud cover over Ben Vrackie. Around noon, a cold front passed over & though it was mostly rainless, there was one small patch that had Pitlochry's name on it. Thereafter, cloud broke up well, to give some sunshine & very mild temperatures (maximum 14.1 )
THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Some clear spells this evening, but perhaps rather more cloudy overnight. Not as mild as last night, with minimum air temperatures down to 4 degrees, with perhaps a touch of ground frost in prone spots.

DAYLIGHT & DARKNESS ON THE VERNAL EQUINOX
MONDAY 21st MARCH----EVENING

It's been the mildest day to date this March, with the maximum temperature reaching 13.9 degrees( The month's average is 8.4). There was rather more cloud around during the middle part of the day & with the wind up to force 6 at times, it perhaps didn't always feel as mild as the temperature suggested.

UPDATE @ 1700Hrs
The day turned out much as expected, with cloud in abundance & sunny intervals at a premium. However, the news wasn't all negative, as with a maximum temperature of 12.0 degrees, today was the mildest day in March to date.

I was a little over-optimistic in my morning forecast, with actually more cloud & less sunshine on the menu than expected. There were also a few nuisance-value showers, which should have stayed over Crianlarich, Tyndrum or Killin! Mind you, the rainfall total here was only 0.1mms, so hardly a day-wrecker!

FRIDAY 18th----EVENING
UPDATE @ 1630Hrs
The morning was the better part of the day, with good spells of sunshine soon clearing the sharp overnight frost. During the afternoon, cloud began to increase, though it was still bright at times. Several bands of showers tried to make it through to our area, but only two partially succeeded, one about 1500Hrs which gave a few spots & one about 1610 which gave 0.1mms--the smallest amount that it is possible to measure. It is often the case that rain bands in the west are weakened & fragmented by the mountains, leaving much smaller amounts to fall on Pitlochry & even less in places like Dundee. Today's highest temperature was 8.1.
THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Any showers at first should quickly die out & the remainder of the period should be dry. Cloud is expected to remain well-broken, once again ensuring a fairly sharp frost. Minimum temperatures are likely to fall to around -4 or -5 degrees.

It's been a brilliant day, with long periods of sunshine. The satellite pictures showed clear skies over much of Scotland, but were partly covered in white patches; not cloud on this occasion, but lying snow!. Temperatures ended up higher than forecast at 8.4. I was too low, but BBC Online ( 5 day Pitlochry), had forecast today's maximum as 2 degrees (I suspect the person responsible must have "inversion phobia"

Cloud is likely to move in from the SE as the evening goes on. It is possible there may be just very small amounts of slight rain or drizzle later in the night. Minimum temperatures close to or slightly below zero.

TUESDAY 15th MARCH---EVENING. + MARCH at the HALF-WAY MARK
UPDATE @ 1630Hrs
Overcast, persistent rain & feeling cold. There was a bit of wet snow in some of the rain. I was passing through Dunkeld at about 3.45p.m.& noticed a covering of wet snow in some of the fields at the north end of the town. The height of this area is only about 50m, yet on arrival back home, the fields near me at 140m had no trace of snow. I think, because of the narrowness of the valley at Dunkeld, this promotes both higher rainfall totals & a greater likelihood of snow in marginal situations, implying that the conditions over the surrounding high ground are "carried over" into the valley. Just a thought, but let me know if you have any other theories.
Today's highest temperature was 4.1, while 8.3mms of rain fell between 0830& 1630.
THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Rain becoming lighter & dying out during this evening. Mainly dry overnight, with perhaps a few cloud breaks. Temperatures falling close to zero, so some icy patches are likely following all the rain.
OUTLOOK
WEDNESDAY will be a better day. It will be dry, with bright skies & a touch less cold at about 6 or 7 degrees.

Feeling less cold, with lighter winds & much less wind--maximum temperature 5.6 degrees. Still lots of snow on the Ben(the photo below sees it in sunny, snow-covered splendour)

Otherwise, a cold & largely cloudy morning, with all snow gone at this altitude.

SUNDAY 13th MARCH----EVENING
UPDATE @ 1630Hrs
The day remained just about dry, but it felt particularly cold in the strong NNE wind. The maximum temperature reached 4.8 (3.5 degrees below normal). This afternoon, cloud broke somewhat around Ben Vrackie & neighbouring high ground, but re-formed again as it moved further south. This is probably caused by the descent of air from the Cairngorms & this set-up remained in place for most of the afternoon. Incidentally, I had a report this morning, of around 4 inches of snow in the Calvine area. The Inverness to Kings Cross rail service was nearly 70mins late into Pitlochry this morning, due, I suspect, to weather conditions further north.
THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
A cold, windy night is expected & some more rain or sleet is likely, though mostly light. There may be some snow above about 200 to 250 metres. Temperatures will fall to about 1 or 2 degrees.

SATURDAY 12th MARCH----EVENING

All in all, Pitlochry appears to have escaped the worst of things today. After some dry snow at first, which began to accumulate, much of the rest of the day saw the snow begin to turn wetter & eventually become sleet. Rainfall amounts in total today, only added up to 5.3 mms, while the thermometer gradually rose from 0.4 to 2 degrees.
THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Further spells of sleet, especially before midnight. Later in the night, there should be some drier spells, but with further occasional rain or sleet. Temperatures could fall back down to give a frost, with resulting icy patches.
OUTLOOK
Perhaps rather cloudy to start with on SUNDAY, but a better day in prospect with dry spells & a few cloud breaks. A little less cold than today.

The day began with 3 cms of fresh snow & one or two more snow showers occurred during the morning. However, the lying snow melted quickly, with the day's highest temperature reaching 5.5 degrees(almost 3 degrees below normal)
THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Mainly dry & though rather cloudy at times, there should be a few clear spells, leading to a slight frost.
OUTLOOK
SATURDAY----An area of slow-moving rain & sleet over areas to the south of us, will readily turn to snow as it pushes north into the Highlands. Perhaps low-lying parts, especially close to the East Coast, may escape with sleet or wet snow, but it would appear that our area is lined up for several hours of snow, though perhaps it may be dry to start the day. Places above about 250m are likely to see substantial falls of at least 15cms. The town itself should expect falls of up to 10cms.
